2010: A tentative roadmap

While silence is golden, keeping this quiet really isn’t ideal for a project like the Notes Blog Core theme. I’ll remedy that now, with a series of upcoming updates and child themes.

First of all, let’s start by looking forward towards the rest of 2010. What’s in store for the Notes Blog project? (more…)

Learn Notes Blog Core with Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog

I wrote a book on WordPress called Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog. If you want to learn how to do funky stuff with WordPress, this is the place to start – but then again I might be a bit biased on the subject. Still, it is a pretty cool book in full color and everything. Read more about it on my TDH.me blog.

Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog is a must have for anyone wanting to do cool things with the Core theme since a lot of the examples in the book is built on, or using code from, it. You might want to check it out.

Incidentally, I’m writing a second WordPress book as well. Read more about that on my Facebook fan page.

Running Core on WordPress 2.9

Notes Blog Core is working perfectly well with the recently released WordPress 2.9, should anyone have any doubts about that. However, none of the new features have been added to the theme yet – this will happen in January when I move it to version 1.1. More on that later, for now I’d like to wish you all a Happy Holiday!

A Perfect Day: A Notes Blog Core Hack

Franky emailed me the link to his latest gig, doing a site about wedding photography. The site is built using Notes Blog Core, albeit not using child themes since it wasn’t appropriate this time around. (more…)

Now on WordPress 2.8.5

This site is now running WordPress 2.8.5, the latest security (or “hardening”) release. You should upgrade, as always.

Turkish Translation for Notes Blog Core

The Core theme is now available i Turkish as well, courtesy of Ersan Özdil. This translation is available from the Core page as usual, together with the rest of language files for the theme. It will be added in the next release of the theme.

Also, the Polish translation got a minor update by Pawel Dworniak.

Want your Notes Blog Core based design featured on the site? Then send me your links and you might end up in a post just like Carmine Lives did.

Carmine Lives: A Simple Core Child Theme

Notes Blog Core is built to be used both stand-alone and as a theme framework. That means that you can build child themes that rely on the Core theme, but works as stand-alone themes. I’ll get to that in a Manual post later on, for now this is what you can do with Notes Blog Core and some child theming in an hour or so. (more…)

German and Polish Translations Available

The Core theme got two new translations today, German and Polish. You can get them from the Core page, and all you need to do to use them is to upload them to the theme folder and of course have WordPress in the particular language. These will be included in the next release.

The theme is already localized to Danish and Swedish, the latter is included in the theme package.

Danish Language Files for Core Available

Notes Blog Core supports internationalization, and besides the Swedish translation already available, you can now get the theme in Danish as well, courtesy of GeorgWP. Get the Danish language files here.

I’ll be listing all the translations available on the Core page, so be sure to let me know if you’ve made one of your own!
