This is just a placeholder. Stay tuned for information about the Notes Mag theme!
Smashing WordPress Themes reader?
Then by all means download the 0.9 version of Notes Mag featured in the book. Enjoy!
Not a reader? You can still download it, but it is by no means ready for prime time use without some code hacking. All that is covered in the Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful book. The 1.0 version of Notes Mag is more what you would expect from a theme by yours truly, meaning just activate and go!
Want to know more about my book, Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful, or perhaps buy it? All that stuff is found over at TDH.me.
Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog is now available in its second edition. The book is revised and updated, sporting even more Notes Blog galore, all in full color.
My latest book is called Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful and is all about theming. The book is available now from your favorite online retailer (or physical bookstore).
I bought WordPress Themes, and Smashing Worpress also. Great work!
Thanks!
I just got a new gig, re-theming a fashion blogger’s site. She totally wants a magazine theme, so I’m going to test notes mag on my local server to see if it will work for her needs.
Site is fashioncow.com
Cool, should work as a base at least. The final release will be more user friendly though. Be sure to child theme.
Thanks for sharing. What a peaslure to read!
This theme seems to have thumbnails for post excerpts built in, with no plugins necessary. But I can’t get them to show. Is there a custom field involved?
Oh, got it:

I need to keep up with these new WP features!
Love it when questions get answered before I get a chance to!
I’m trying out your Notes Mag 0.9 on my practice site (just on my local box). (Downloaded it from here; following along in the book.) Everything seems to be working nicely except the home page is not showing the three featured posts. I’ve tried both ‘Featured’ and ‘featured’ as the name of the category and I’ve added that category to four of my sample posts. I also tried commenting out the links to the images. But I’m not getting anything in that space.
The only activated plugin in Exec-Php. But deactivating this didn’t help.
Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?
It looks like the “loop” here is not working. Page source just shows this div element:
Well I tried to show you the element from the code, but for some reason it doesn’t come through. What happens is the div “headline-stories” opens and closes with nothing in it.
Weird. Could you email me with the details and I’ll take a closer look? tdh at tdh dot me
