Which plugin are you using for the social buttons? Do you have an URL or a picture of an example on how it looks. I guess it's a plugin or a theme that adds it. Not sure I can do very much about it. But could have a look and test if you let me know on the questions above. :)

Perfect widget that I was looking for, thank you !!!
But the note templates displays the social buttons like Shareaholic or Facebook Like/Google +1 buttons at the bottom of the note... How could I make that the note only shows the text written in the wysiwyg editor, please ?
Many thank for your work and help :-)

You can go ahead and build on the current version of Notes Blog, the bump to 1.0 will change some things but as long as you use the classes and IDs you'll be fine.

I'm utterly swamped, but I hope to release 1.0 in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed!

re: Notes Blog download, v. 1.0 release date, expected change log

Hello Thord.

I'm enjoying working through your book Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog 2nd ed., look forward to seeing the 3rd edition, and am using the 2nd edition so far to adapt our company's pending deeply revised website (not yet posted).

As you advise in your chapter 4, I intend to build our company's theme as a child to your theme "Notes Blog". I see that the final release of Notes Blog v. 1.0 has been due out soon for perhaps a year, and that you have been advising readers to check back with your site to look for it.

I see your comment that as of Feb. 13 you had no ETA, as well as your post, which appears undated in my browser: "Notes Blog Release Imminent". I'm also confused by mentions of v. 0.9 that seem to attribute a delay in release of 1.0 to slowness of WordPress reviewing and approval, and by links that I expect to point to v. 0.9 but land at v. 0.2.9.1

When do you now expect to release Notes Blog v. 1.0?
What are the major changes that it will include?
What version should we use in the meantime, and what is the address of its download page?

Knowing an anticipated date will make checking back more compelling. Knowing the major expected changes will help your users to plan our development work around your schedule.

Thanks for your good work!

Sincerely,
     Lars

If you're using Notes Blog as a basis and are adding code for custom headers from the book, then it is possible that it clashes with the feature in the theme itself. It already features custom headers.

Most CSS solutions for drop down menus should work. A future version of Notes Blog might feature drop down navigation, although it is poor design since it works bad on touch devices.

I've decided to work from the Notes Blog theme as it has navigation. I have 2 questions ........

I've added all the code to functions.php for Custom Header (pages 136-137 from Smashing WordPress Second Edition. Everything works except the header image doesn't appear - the admin part is fine. Is it possible to point me in the right direction to make it appear please?

Could you possibly point me in the right direction to add drop down navigation for child pages to the navigation please?
