Getting Ready for Notes 2.0

Ladies and gentlemen, it is about time I talk a bit more about what’s going on with the Notes concept. Yes, that’s right, it’s just “Notes” now, for reasons which I’m sure will be obvious in the coming weeks. And yes, it’s weeks now, not months… The Notes concept consists of three major theme tracks, [...]

I’ve been getting quite some questions regarding wether Notes Blog Core Theme supports the new Menu feature in WordPress 3.0+. The short answer is yes, it does.

A slightly longer one: The template tag wp_nav_menu is no where in the theme. Instead, you can drop your Custom Menu widget in the Submenu widget area and see it work out of the box. Future versions of Notes Blog Core Theme will have more extensive support.

Work with Notes Blog Core 1.1 took a leap last night. I have separated some functionality from index.php, which means a few new template files have been added. This to avoid some reported child theming bugs in WordPress when relying on index.php files in some cases, not a Core issue per se, but still. No child theme should be affected by this change.

Proposed Stylesheet Changes in Core 1.1

To make Notes Blog Core a bit easier to work with, I’m considering splitting up the stylesheet in several files, instead of having everything in style.css. This might not matter so much right now as the stylesheet isn’t overly complicated nor long, but when adding support for plugins and new features it might be a [...]

Notes Blog Core 1.0.2 Released

I’m pleased to announce that version 1.0.2 of Notes Blog Core is available from the wordpress.org themes directory. You can also update it from within your WordPress install if you’re running it already, or install it that way. Just click Themes and take it from there. Core 1.0.2 is a bugfix release, so it is [...]

I have submitted version 1.0.2 of Notes Blog Core to the themes directory over at wordpress.org. It fixes a few issues mentioned in the comments on the Core page, and will hopefully put an end to them as well.

A French translation for Notes Blog Core has been added. It will be in the next theme release, but you can download it from the Core page already if you want to. The translation was made by Frédéric Tamaya.

2010: A tentative roadmap

While silence is golden, keeping this quiet really isn’t ideal for a project like the Notes Blog Core theme. I’ll remedy that now, with a series of upcoming updates and child themes. First of all, let’s start by looking forward towards the rest of 2010. What’s in store for the Notes Blog project?

Learn Notes Blog Core with Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog

I wrote a book on WordPress called Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog. If you want to learn how to do funky stuff with WordPress, this is the place to start – but then again I might be a bit biased on the subject. Still, it is a pretty cool book in full color and everything. [...]

Notes Blog Core is working perfectly well with the recently released WordPress 2.9, should anyone have any doubts about that. However, none of the new features have been added to the theme yet – this will happen in January when I move it to version 1.1. More on that later, for now I’d like to wish you all a Happy Holiday!
