How and where are you trying to change the background? Most likely it is due because of they’re not floating. Will look into that, #site could float at least. Otherwise, just use body.

When trying to change the background of #site or #wrap, it doesn’t change and just stay transparent. Bug? Also, the stylesheet doesn’t validate.
